Joy to the… McRib? I don’t know, but it seems like something was lost in the translation. Giant billboards announcing McRib’s return back aren’t just overwhelming me with joy. Nothing against McRib, mind you. But… Joy to the McRib?
In my mind’s eye I try to compare the two images: a Joy to the McRib billboard… and a sky full of angels announcing the Birth of births: a Savior! peace among men… God’s pleasure… good news… great joy! Is it just me, or is there a disconnect here?
Sometimes I think we use really expensive words cheaply. Joy belongs with something that lasts longer than a sandwich, don’t you think?
Joy to the world, the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven, and heaven, and nature sing.
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven, and heaven, and nature sing.
Every blessing and joy in our Savior,
