Consider the recent string of attacks our President and his administration have made on God’s holy institution of marriage:
- Feb 23, 2011 — Attorney General Eric Holder, at President Obama’s directive, announces that the Justice Department will no longer defend the Defense of Marriage Act (which disallows federal recognition of same-sex marriages).
- June 27, 2011 — Secretary of State Hillary Clinton approves of New York’s just-passed same-sex marriage law.
- July 19, 2011 — President Obama officially supports repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act.
- July 22, 2011 – President Obama, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen certify repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, which barred openly gay persons from military service. The repeal became effective September 20, 2011.
- November 15, 2011 — U.S. Housing and Urban DevelopmentSecretary Shaun Donovan “absolutely” supports marriage equality for homosexual couples.
- May 6, 2012 – Vice President Joe Biden says he is “absolutely comfortable” with same-sex marriage.
- May 7, 2012 — Secretary of Education Arne Duncan endorses same-sex marriage.
- May 9, 2012 — President Obama announces he supports same-sex marriage.
I find this deeply troubling in many respects. But mostly I tremble at God’s response. Indeed, by our leaders’ carefully prosecuted strategy of revising laws, we have become those to whom God says,
Woe to those who call evil good,
and good evil;
Who substitute darkness for light
and light for darkness…
As a tongue of fire consumes stubble
And dry grass collapses into the flame,
So their root will become like rot
and their blossom blow away as dust;
For they have rejected the law of the LORD of hosts
And despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.
~ Isaiah 5:20-24
Woe to us, indeed!
