Notable Kids of the Bible

Notable Kids of the Bible

This week I found it both sobering and instructive… that Asher Velilla took his first breath… while Dave Johnson and Queen Elizabeth took their last.

Today is Richard Peters’ eighty-seventh birthday. Way to go, Richard!

Yet the Queen, Dave, and Richard all came into the world just like Asher: as a child.

This Sunday we begin a new 9:30 Bible Study series: Notable Kids of the Bible.

Someone once said that the Bible is primarily a book about children, for from beginning to end the holy Child Jesus dominates its sacred pages. The terms “child” and “children” occur almost 2,000 times in the Bible. With the exception of Adam and Eve, the countless thousands of named and unnamed persons crowding the Bible were all children at one time. *

Perhaps that explains why Jesus was so thoroughly miffed at people who brushed the children aside. Why He paused His preaching to touch and bless the children. Why He singled out their simple faith as an example to us all. And why He reveled in their Hosannas.

No doubt you remember these notable kids: Miriam, the boy with the 5 loaves and 2 fish, the girl who referred Naaman to Elisha, Josiah, Samuel… The list goes on.

So it will be good to examine the impact and value of these and other young lives; to embrace those admirable, childlike qualities which Jesus commends; and to encourage our own young people to be courageous and zealous for God in their present season. See you Sunday!
