The other day I was struck by the precariousness of a major league baseball player’s career. A player can be traded to another team just like that! Without any foreknowledge of the trade; and completely without his consent. He’s expected to adapt to a new coaching staff, teammates, and potentially a different playing style. Family members have to be ready to pack up and move as well. Sometimes players are traded to their rival teams. And of course they’re expected to change their loyalties immediately. Not long ago a player named Paul DeJong was traded during a game to the opposing team. He literally walked across the field to the other dugout!

But then there’s the Christ-follower. Who can never be traded. There is nothing precarious about his present or his future. His contract will never be renegotiated. He’ll never receive that call to pack his bags. His security is based on the faithfulness and power of Almighty God. “No one can snatch them out of My hand,” said Jesus. “And no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand” (Jn 10:28-29).

And there will never be a bad call by our Umpire. Either by accident or on account of an ulterior motive. And there is never something on the field He didn’t or couldn’t see. He’s completely fair.

It doesn’t get any better than this, does it?!. Nothing can come between us and His love!
