A friend sent me this Marketplace listing the other day. Back in the day it was mine. It was decked out with chrome stacks, a huge Caterpillar motor, 13 speeds, air ride suspension, air ride cab & seat, a nice sleeper, flotation tires, a steerable drop-axle, and so much more! This truck was sweet, and man, could it stroll! It never complained, even under the heaviest of loads. Now it’s a relic. Ichabod: the old truck’s glory has departed. They’ve reduced the price to $750 and even that’s negotiable.

It’s a good reminder to someone like me who really likes big iron. “Do not weary yourself to gain powerful Peterbilts nor set your heart on cool Kenworths. For they will surely find their way to an ignominious end in the scrap yard.” (Adaptation of Prov 23:4-5)

Lord, am I setting my heart on any treasure less than You? On things whose glory will only wear out or rust away? On things that will ultimately devolve in flames with the rest of this earth?
