A glimpse into the thoughts and prayers of a grandfather for his newest grandchild:
Dear Connor James Cochrane,
Welcome to our world!
Once I knew you were in the womb, I began to plead with God to bring you to Himself in a saving way. That He would be knitting your body together, but more importantly, knitting your soul in such a way that it would respond to Him. That He would orchestrate new life in your soul. That He would claim You for Himself. That He would have foreknown and predestined and called and justified and glorified you from eternity past—Rom 8:29-30. (Yes, I cannot fathom the theological complexities of this request, but I prayed it anyway.)
And I shall continue to pray that He will call you to Himself. That He will save you. That He will grant you repentance. That He will be the Love of your life. That He will give you a heart of devotion to the Savior. That He will rescue you from all evil. I pray God will keep you. Protect & preserve you. That He will by any and all means save you for Himself.
For my part I intend to lay hold of heaven for you, holding onto the horns of the altar, so to speak. I will say repeatedly, “Lord, at all costs, rescue this one. Please, Father, let me not come to You without this one.”
I will pray Scriptures like this one over you:
“This one will say, ‘I am the LORD’S’;
And that one will call on the name of Jacob;
And another will write on his hand,
‘Belonging to the LORD’” (Isaiah 44:5).
I will ask God to give you a new heart (Ezekiel 36:26). I will ask Him to send you out of the overthrow. (Gen 29:16).
To that end, my child, may God be merciful to you. And me.
Love,
Grandpa
