Dear Woodland Hills Family,
Down through the years our family has observed the Red Plate Tradition. When something special happened to you or when you made a noteworthy accomplishment, you got the Red Plate for supper! Our little journal of Red Plate Remembrances includes things like:
* Courtney–was brave at the dentist today.
* Elisabeth–had a great report card today.
* Jonathan–learned how to “pump” his legs on the swing today.
* David–can now ride his bike without training wheels.
As our family matured, so did our Red Plate celebrations. Later entries highlight milestone birthdays, driver’s licenses, graduations, new jobs, engagements… and so on. Reviewing those brief notes now brings back a rush of memories that had fled away.
How easily we forget the things we thought we never could! Yet, how quickly they come back with the aid of a remembrance marker.
I suppose forgetfulness is why at least nineteen times the Lord told His people through Moses: “Remember!” And why He established remembrance markers such as unleavened bread, feasts, stone monuments, living in tents, and tassels.
This is a good reminder that we should be jotting down remembrance markers of the Lord’s faithfulness and provision to us. Or erecting monuments to His kindness and mercy. Or memorializing milestones He helped you accomplish.
“You shall remember all the way which the Lord Your God has led you…”
Blessings,
You might find it enlightening to review those nineteen commands to “Remember!” Exod. 13:3; Exod. 20:8,24; Num. 15:39,40; Deut. 4:10; Deut. 5:15; Deut. 7:18; Deut. 8:2,18; Deut. 9:7; Deut. 15:15; Deut. 16:3,12; Deut. 24:9,18,22; Deut. 25:17; Deut. 32:7
