“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people…” 1
“…the Sunrise from on high will visit us.” 2

The Bible speaks of numerous instances when God visits. What does it mean? Did He just decide to pop in?

Hardly. Whenever the Bible speaks of God visiting, it is because a Holy Presence is attending some particular event to effect a divine purpose.

The Lord visited His people in giving them food during the famine.3
The Lord visited barren Hannah and she conceived.4
The Lord promised to visit His afflicted people with blessing after their punishment in Babylon.5

Imagine! With all that is going on in the universe, the Infinite Timeless One chooses to focus on a particular event in space and time. It’s as if everything gets put on hold for a moment while God personally attends to some specific detail of His eternal purpose.

The Baby in the manger: God visiting in the truest sense. A certain reverence and trembling seems fitting, doesn’t it?

This Christmas, why not steal away and kneel privately before the Lord in humble, thankful adoration for the visit that accomplished your redemption?
