Listening in on God

Listening in on God

I was intrigued and blessed by Jerry DeRenzo’s message this past Sunday: Listening in on God.

Jerry took us to four recorded conversations between the Father and the Son, or between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I asked his permission to restate them here for our review.

The first conversation had to do with the Creation of Mankind in Genesis 1:26. The second concerned the Consequences of Sin in Genesis 3:22. The third was about the provision and Coming of the Savior (Hebrews 10:5-7), and the fourth conversation speaks of the Consummation of the Ages (Psalm 110:2). The takeaways were substantial and profound, and yet so very practical. For example:

  1. What God said to Himself about our Creation highlights our origin, our true nature, and our lofty status.
  2. Yet what we hear God saying to Himself about the Consequences of our sin, lets us know the gravity of our guilt, our problem, and our plight.
  3. Thankfully, as we overhear Him planning for the Coming of the Savior, we understand our significance, our value, our deliverance, and our rescue.
  4. And as He speaks in our hearing of the Consummation of the Ages and our participation in it with Him, we grasp our destiny, our joy, and our blessedness.

Well done, Jerry!

Can you think of other instances when the Scriptures allow us to Listen in on God? Several of these were initiated by Christ on the cross, as well as in the Garden the night before. There were also the conversations we heard when the Voice from heaven spoke to the Son in Mark 1:11 or John 12:28. And there are more! What do we glean from these conversations?

This coming Sunday we will be back in the short book of Jude. I hope you’ve taken my challenge to read the 25 verses of Jude at least once each week during the month of August!
