Walk on the Water

Walk on the Water

If you want to walk on water, you’ve got to get out of the boat. The book by that name* is of course a reference to the disciple Peter, who responded in faith to Jesus’ invitation to walk to Him on the water. He believed Jesus could enable him to do what was impossible otherwise.**

This Sunday it will be our opportunity to respond to Jesus’ invitation to walk on the water. Literally? Well, not literally, but just as knee-knockingly real. He’s inviting you to step out of the comfort and safety of your “budget boat” and believe that Jesus will enable you to give an amount of money to missions in the coming year that would be impossible otherwise.

As Faith Promise Sunday has approached, I’ve been asking, “Lord, what amount should I write down for my faith promise?” Truthfully, I don’t like it when my knees knock, so I tend to play it safe. But in doing so I reveal my small amount of faith. And then Jesus says, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

So… at the Lord’s invitation—or more accurately, at His command—I’m going to get out of the boat of my safe approach to finances and come to Him on the water of my unknowns, and trust Him to enable me to do what will be impossible otherwise.

Will you join me?
