God’s Forgiveness and the Benefits of Being Forgiven

God’s Forgiveness and the Benefits of Being Forgiven

Psalm 32 gives us a very good look at how the Lord forgives, what precipitates that forgiveness and the benefits of being forgiven. These concepts are so important and fundamental that Paul quotes from verses one and two of Psalm 32 to build a case for “the blessing upon the man to whom God reckons righteousness apart from works” (Romans 4:5-8).

The message of Psalm 32 embraces one of the fundamental teachings of the Bible – a doctrine basic to believer’s fellowship with God and obedient living. Yet for many this teaching is not well-understood. Many live out their lives in apparent contradiction to what the Bible teaches about sin and forgiveness. The writer of this Psalm was able to put the matter in a very concise form here in just 11 verses. And he wrote in Hebrew in the form of poetry. Such a psalm as this may have even been sung as a song in the worship services of ancient Israel.
