being with…

being with…

Ah, Spring! …fresh flowers, cool breezes, birds singing, new growth… and love birds (the featherless type) strolling hand-in-hand, laughing and giggling, a bit glassy-eyed, and rather unaware of schedules or deadlines… Only one thing is on their minds: being with the other.

There’s something about being with the person you love, whether it’s a close friend, family member, or lover. Don’t deny it–I’ll bet you sing your heart out, too, when the radio plays, I Only Want To Be With You, To Be With You, or Being With You.

Is it strange, then, that the Lord – in whose image we’re made – has the same, deep-rooted passion to be with us? In the garden He used to walk with Adam and Eve. His Son was Emmanuel, “God with us.” He imparted His Spirit to live within us. And one day He’ll receive us to Himself, that we may be forever with Him.

Barb and I are bummed out when life’s hectic pace keeps us from being with each other… as is our heavenly Father when we’re harried and spent… and hardly with Him.

Why not take a long, leisurely walk with the Lord this afternoon? Or sit on the back deck with Him this evening? Or get up during the night tonight just to sit with Him on the couch? I think it’d make His day.
