life questions

I’ve heard several comments like this one over the last couple of days: “The Lord really challenged me at George’s funeral. His life made me ask whether I’m living my life as wholeheartedly for God as he did.”

Funerals have a way of making us ask end-result questions. When I’m done with my race, what will the outcome be? Will I like what I see? What will they be saying about how I lived my life? More importantly, What will the Lord Jesus be saying?

A few people run well all the way to the end. Many people start out strong but take a wrong turn or get sidetracked. Others fade away or just quit altogether.

Life gets so busy and full. We blink and 5 years have gone by. Sometimes that busyness blinds us to the values that are driving us. We need periodic occasions for review. Funerals have a way of bringing clarity to the sum of all the life-choices we’re making.

That’s why we read: It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of every man; the living should take this to heart. (Ecclesiastes 7:2)

If you keep going like you are now, what end-result are you headed for? Take some time with a pen and paper and jot down what that might look like.

If you realize you need to make some adjustments, remember this: God allows U-turns!

Blessings,
