Gaza…! and Jerusalem…! Two cities at war, headlining the news!
Sometime back, the names of these two cities—Gaza and Jerusalem—were uttered by an angel. In the same breath! “Philip, arise and go south to the road that descends from Jerusalem to Gaza” (Acts 8:26).
Things were different then. There wasn’t a war going on. Or was there?
When Philip arrived, he found a high-ranking official of Candace, the queen of Ethiopia, riding along in his chariot reading the Scriptures. Philip and he began talking, and by the time their conversation was over, this man’s soul was liberated from the clutches of the Dark Prince. Way out here on a desert road, of all places, he had become a citizen of the Kingdom of Light! Who would have thought the Spirit of God would fight a war here?
From extra-biblical history we learn that this Ethiopian went on back home and was instrumental in leading many of his countrymen to forsake the Dark Prince and give their allegiance to Christ the King. War, indeed!
And now in this present conflict between Gaza and Jerusalem, is the Spirit of God warring against that Prince of Darkness Grim, that the Savior might proclaim release to many more multitudes of captives? Oh, may it be so, Father! Bring us an Ethiopia from one Ethiopian on the road to Gaza.
