Faith: deliberate confidence

Faith: deliberate confidence

“Faith is deliberate confidence in the character of God…”**

I am thrilled that so many of you have taken the faith promise challenge:
Lord, I really want to fund world evangelization, but I lack the means to give more. Would you entrust me with additional resources so I can participate more significantly in spreading Your Good News?

But now the rubber meets the road! It’s been three days. The thrill of that faith step has passed, and you’re already wondering, How will God provide? When? Was I foolish?

This is where you must revert to “deliberate confidence in the character of God.”
The One who led you to this point… will not now abandon you.
The One who promised to provide… was telling the truth.
The One who has limitless resources… is not fretting your need.
He who did not spare His own Son… will freely give all things.

Whenever you realize you’re being tempted by fear or doubt, make the deliberate choice to trust the character of God. Review some aspect of His character that addresses your worries or concerns, and then on that basis thank Him for however He will choose to work out your situation.

The conversation might go something like this: Lord, I am trusting you to provide xxx this month for my faith promise. But I don’t see how it’s going to happen and I’m starting to worry. So I choose to trust in the fact that since You know all things, You know I have this need; and since You are Yahweh Provider, You will make the necessary provision. Therefore, I am choosing not to worry but rather to thank You for however You’re going to work this out.

This is called “praying with our eyes on God, not on the difficulties.”** And the bigger the difficulties, the more we must “fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.” *

Blessings,
Paul

*Oswald Chambers, Scottish Bible-teacher who wrote My Utmost For His Highest, said:”Faith is deliberate confidence in the character of God whose ways you may not understand at the time,” and , “We have to pray with our eyes on God, not on the difficulties.”

** Hebrews 12:2
